About the Banksia Environmental Foundation

The Banksia Environmental Foundation is a not for profit organisation that has instigated an annual awards program to recognise excellence in environmental achievement across all sectors of the community, in particular, amongst government and business sectors. Through its awards and partnerships with industry, government and the community, the Foundation seeks to raise public awareness of the needs and means of caring for the environment as well as encouraging innovation and outstanding environmental practice. Banksia’s vision is to be recognised as a leader championing environmental excellence and its mission is to inspire and empower individuals and organisations to make a positive difference to the quality of the environment.

The Banksia Awards

The Banksia Awards, now in their fourteenth year, were established to motivate individuals, organisations and companies across Australia to strive for outstanding environmental performance.

The International Banksia Award, the most prestigious of all the Banksias, is awarded to those who make a significant contribution to improving the environment on a global level. Allan Savory joins an esteemed list of previous winners including:

  • 2002 - Group Chief Executive of BP, Lord Browne of Maddingley - in recognition of his outstanding efforts to improve the petroleum industry’s environmental performance.
  • 2001 - Liao Xiaoyi, President of the Global Village Beijing - for her pioneering and tireless efforts in promoting environmental awareness to the Chinese people.
